The German commodity plastics market

The market for standard commodity plastics boasted a strong upward trend in January, both with regard to demand and quotes. Suppliers already registered incoming orders for 2012 in December. Some producers were forced to close their order books at a rather early stage. The brisk demand was fuelled by customers avidly placing orders with converters as well as stockpiling. PS witnessed the strongest increase in the wake of the upstream product styrene. Sound markups were also registered for polyolefins. Imports were negligible on the current market.
