Manufacturers of aluminium packaging reported consistently strong deliveries in the third quarter.
Both suppliers of tubes and of aluminium beverage packaging and aerosol cans reported volume growth. Some tube producers were even clearly up on the previous year.
However, the fourth quarter appeared to be very difficult to assess, packaging suppliers told EUWID in early October. Despite the fact that capacity utilization was still good for the most part, the industry was looking to the coming months with a certain degree of scepticism. With inflation, fears of recession and high energy costs leading to consumer reticence, current demand in all three market segments could be curbed. Added to this is the concern about sharply rising prices for coils and slugs.
