The British packaging paper market: Corrugated board sector sees demand declining

After the boom in online shopping and sales of groceries as well as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) led to strong activity levels in the British packaging sector in March, the tide turned again from the middle of April.

The lack of demand from segments affected by the lockdown, especially industry and the automotive sector, was very noticeable, experts told EUWID. Depending on which sector their end users are in, activity levels at the various corrugated packaging plants could therefore differ markedly.

Industrial and graphic applications have fallen off sharply, but the boom in the still-active markets has slowed and some companies were reporting that demand was 10-15 per cent lower than the usual April levels.
