The British packaging paper market: Prices feeling the squeeze more and more

Britain’s corrugated board and containerboard market was experiencing a phase of calm because of the summer holidays towards the middle of August.

Notwithstanding this situation, experts interviewed by EUWID were certainly not unsatisfied with business. Ordering of both corrugated board and paper had been stronger than expected in July, they said. This trend had sometimes continued into the first two weeks of August.

Experts reported that capacity utilisation was "not bad” in this context. It was not at all easy to source large quantities of paper overnight. That being said, supply is not tight. Prices are also coming under mounting pressure in the UK amidst low recovered paper prices, the trend in prices in mainland Europe and new capacity.
