The British cartonboard market: Surplus demand and rising prices in January

The British cartonboard market remained characterised by surplus demand in January.

Lead times are still very long, according to suppliers and converters. Sourcing extra amounts is virtually impossible, and more likely due to orders being cancelled at short notice rather than material being up for grabs. New customers have hardly any chance of getting their hands on cartonboard. The production stoppage at Baden Board in Germany is rocking the boat in the UK, too, and has left a few customers "out in the rain.”

Much higher prices took effect at the start of January as cartonboard producers introduced new mark-ups or increased existing surcharges.
