Manufacturers of flexible plastic packaging gave varied accounts of how business panned out in 2021.
On the one hand, demand for flexible plastic packaging, particularly in the food and pet food sectors, ensured full order books. On the other hand, a tight supply of upstream products, jerky supply chains and rising energy and raw material costs were a cause for concern for companies last year.
According to respondents, the start to 2022 had been positive so far, and demand was brisk. The main raw materials were reportedly available. However, the situation for barrier materials such as EVOH and thin aluminium foil remained tense. These were scarce and expensive.
