The market for beer packaging might soon see a new product thanks to the continuously developing project “tempered glass” by Vetropack and Emhart.
The partners announced this project for the first time in 2012; the aim is to produce lighter or harder glass bottles without loss of quality.
Initially the validation and test phase was planned for 2014 but both were delayed. The complete validation was concluded at the end of 2015.
Meanwhile pilot production of tempered reusable containers has commenced. These are to be launched in a locally limited test market with retailers in 2017. The 0.33l reusable container weighs about 210g.
