The German label paper market: Prices remain on an upward trajectory

Demand for label paper in Germany continued to boom in the fourth quarter of 2021 and price increases announced for thisquarter, which in several cases were accompanied by energy surcharges, took effect without any issues as a result.

Label paper prices remain on an upward trajectory in the new year, too. Manufacturers unveiled hikes of 15 per cent for label paper with effect from 1 January, which have reportedly taken effect. Lead times have become even longer and are presently up to three months long. Along with brisk demand, the shutdown of production at Zanders was leaving its mark, EUWID sources said. The supply situation had taken a further turn for the worse owing to a strike at UPM that has lasted since the start of the year, which has also affected label paper production.
