Demand from the packaging industry for polyamide 6 was once again brisk at the beginning of the year.
In particular, demand for food and pet food applications was at a high level. The same applied to the cosmetics, healthcare and pharmaceutical segments. The slump in deliveries of packaging films and bags for prescription drugs and medical devices, as was the case at the beginning of the pandemic, had been overcome.
It was not only higher electricity and gas prices that were driving up prices in the energy-intensive plastics industry, but the costs of upstream products also climbed sharply in January, according to market experts. As a result, polyamide prices had soared to new heights.
