Demand for PA 6 for packaging applications was very strong in December.
According to producers and converters, a particularly large amount of material was flowing into the food and pet food sectors. Supply was largely sound and the majority of packaging producers were able to meet their own needs, in part because lower operating rates in the automotive sector had left their mark. "The packaging industry is flourishing and growing impressively," one supplier told EUWID.
This growth was not solely due to the change in consumer behaviour, according to which consumers prefer packaged goods in times of pandemic for reasons of hygiene and safety. There was also talk of a certain panic in the market in view of possible new plastic shortages in the coming year.
