Prices for the upstream material tinplate will rise drastically on January 1, 2022, in some cases doubling compared with this year's prices.
This development had already been foreshadowed in the last EUWID tinplate packaging market report from August. Negotiations between manufacturers of packaging and closures and the tinplate industry were largely drawing to a close or had already been concluded in mid-November. However, there reportedly was no talk of "negotiations" with the suppliers and the motto was rather "take it or leave it". One can producer described the tinplate industry as a "seller's market with a distributor function".
There is no question for packaging and closure manufacturers that the stark rise of tinplate prices must be passed on, and the industry also agrees that this step must be taken on January 1, 2022, as there is reportedly "no alternative".
