Germany: buyers and sellers of folding boxboard worried because of the strikes in Finland

Negotiations on the announced hikes for GD board (white-lined chipboard) are still underway in the German market for cartons and cartonboard.

Carton makers report that they have been informed of price hikes from nearly all GD board producers. However, implementation of higher prices had not by far been completed at the time of the current EUWID survey, report respondents. Buyers, meanwhile, are trying to bargain down the proposed increases.

While some buyers were still negotiating in the penultimate week in March, other buyers seem to have already fixed prices for the second quarter. Industry insiders appear to be trying to block the demands of GD producers but some of the buyers say that they have not been able to avoid higher prices altogether.

In the market for folding boxboard (GC), buyers as well as sellers are worried about the strikes in Finland. Although raw material is stocked in warehouses to bridge potential supply bottlenecks, it will not suffice, market insiders add.
