The balance sheet for German producers of plastic packaging was negative for 2023. As reported by the Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen (IK) with reference to the GVM industry statistics for plastic packaging, production fell by 10% year-on-year to 3.8m t last year. Turnover fell by 7.7% to €16.8bn compared to 2022. According to the IK, the situation was even more dramatic for flexible packaging and films, where production fell by 12.4% and 14.1% respectively last year. The production of drums, canisters and buckets also fell by more than 12%. According to the figures, the production of bottles fell by a comparatively modest 3.7%....
