Label paper: Delivery periods and prices rise to unprecedented levels

"Chaos quarter” is how a producer of label papers dubbed the first quarter of the current year in Germany.

From unusually high order inflow at the end of 2021 demand moved even higher in the first quarter 2022. Several factors fed into the development, market observers told EUWID. One of the principal reasons was the strike that began at UPM on 1 January and lasted 110 days, which also affected production of label papers.

In the first quarter label paper prices had to be hiked in step with the cost increases in the first quarter. However, producers did not pursue a uniform schedule or a consistent increase in prices.
