For players on the British market for cartonboard, the year 2023 was ending on a brighter note than the full-year developments would suggest.
Many of the market participants surveyed by EUWID reported that demand in November and December had improved somewhat compared to the previous months. "Demand is decent but certainly not overwhelming,” said one respondent. Other players expressed similar sentiments and suspected they were finally seeing the effects of inventory destocking.
"The problem is not demand, but rather the enormous supply,” explained one market insider.
