The Turkish paper industry continues to be mainly in the hands of local companies.
Most of the factories are small to medium-sized and many of them are not owned by international groups. But foreign investors are becoming more interested as the Turkish market becomes increasingly important.
This trend is being seen especially in the packaging paper segment, in the form of cooperation agreements, takeovers, or in some cases, new investments.
For example, Hamburger Containerboard, is considering installing a new paper machine in Dentas, Turkey. DS Smith recently entered the Turkish market via an acquisition and s few weeks ago, Sweden’s ÅR Packaging Group and Turkish company Egem Ambalaj renewed their strategic partnership.
