The mood in the German market for steel sheet packaging was depressed in mid-September.
Some drum producers, for whom demand had still been largely satisfactory in the first half of 2023, reported massive slumps in the course of the third quarter. These had even led to cumulative volume declines of 15-20% in individual cases by the beginning of September. For others, the market had been "declining alarmingly" for several months, not just since the third quarter.
According to unanimous statements from the industry, it was mainly standard drums for the chemical industry that were affected by the declining demand.
