The market for standard commodity plastics was off to a good start in January. Many converters – apparently more than expected – returned to the market to replenish their depleted inventories. As a result, demand for standard commodity plastics was reportedly good or exceedingly good. For January suppliers were determined to pass on the increased feedstock costs as well as implement considerable markups to boost margins. However, they were only partially successful - often it was just the increased costs for upstream products that were passed on.
