The market for aluminium packaging presented itself quite differently in 2022. While the suppliers of tubes and aluminium aerosol cans surveyed by EUWID could look back on extremely high demand, the balance sheet of beverage can manufacturers was rather restrained.
On the other hand, the considerable increase in converting costs for suppliers of slugs and coils affected all three packaging segments equally. In mid-January suppliers of slugs and coils had reportedly not - or only partially - passed on the rising costs for energy, transport or personnel during the year and had therefore mostly entered the market with higher prices as of 1 January 2023. In this context, there was talk of "significant" to "disproportionately" higher prices for input materials.
However, manufacturers of tubes and cans did reportedly not succeed in passing on these higher prices across the board.
