In mid-December, assessments of the market for standard commodity plastics in 2022 were mixed.
After a good first half of the year, all EUWID respondents recorded declining deliveries and revenues since July. Particularly in the German-speaking countries of central Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), performance was lower than in the previous year without any target figures being achieved.
In December, all respondents described commodity plastics supply as completely sufficient for almost all polymers, in some cases even as high. Production cutbacks on the part of monomer and polymer manufacturers had significantly reduced the available volumes, but had not halted the downward trend in prices. Sellers said that demand had simply collapsed too sharply.
