The German commodity plastics market: in April hopes for upswing in demand go unfulfilled

Almost all quotations drop / supply volumes remain sufficient

Any market hopes that falling monomer prices would herald in rising demand for standard plastics in Germany were dashed in April.

Demand from converters remained subdued across all product ranges. Despite continued production cuts by European polymer and monomer manufacturers, supply was described as sufficient to meet existing demand. Thus, prices for standard plastics continued to trend lower in April. With Easter marking the start of a season with numerous public holidays, which is followed almost immediately by the summer holiday period, many of the producers, distributors and consumers of primary commodity plastics surveyed did not expect market activity to return to normal or for demand to pick up at least until the autumn.
