The German packaging paper market: recycled corrugated case material producers worried about business figures

Prices of recycled corrugated case material continued on a downward trend in December in Germany: they were cut across the board by €50/t in December for brown as well as white grades.

Only for coated white-top testliner, the prices cuts were somewhat lower at €40. Order books show gaps. EUWID respondents estimate that order volumes have receded by 5-10 per cent compared to the same period last year. At the same time, inventory levels are high. Paper producers have responded by curtailing output. Many a paper machines is running at slower speeds to match supply with demand as well as reduce energy consumption.

While respondents tell EUWID that the situation is still manageable, they are worried about how business will perform in 2023.
