The PET market is subject to severe price fluctuations. The strong volatility, which is also fuelling speculation, has unsettled preform and bottle producers as well as their customers. Fillers do not know when to place their orders and prefer to wait. PET suppliers say their customers have been loath to make decisisions for the past two to three months. The suppliers and converters interviewed by EUWID agree that the massive raw material leaps are detrimental to the market. In October, European PET prices partly increased – hikes of up to €30/t were reported, however, occasionaly there had already been rebates. In November, prices plummeted by €70-100/t or more, depending on the base level.
