The German PET market: price gap between primary and recycled material still on the rise

Demand for PET bottles in Germany returned to the pre-Covid level thanks to the persistently warm weather.

Deliveries of small containers, some of which had seen demand drop to zero during the lockdown, has also recovered - but the pre-crisis level is still not being reached in this segment, market participants told EUWID in mid-May. While demand from converters for primary PET was good, European supply remained tight in the middle of the second quarter. However, the situation was not the result of high demand caused by the summerlike temperatures; rather, it was due to the still existing disruptions in the supply chains.

Prices for primary PET eased slightly on the German market but remained on a high level.
