Tinplate packaging Germany: industry mood in September between gloom and euphoria

In mid-September, the mood in the German market for tinplate packaging and closures fluctuated between gloom and euphoria.

Suppliers of crown caps, for example, enjoyed excellent operating rates and order backlogs, some of which will last until the end of the year. Manufacturers of chemical-technical metal packaging, on the other hand, were complaining about significant volume losses in the third quarter and some companies had already cancelled shifts and even entire days of production due to a lack of orders.

A big question mark is hanging over the entire industry with regard to the development of tinplate prices from next year onwards. The statements from the market did not yet indicate a clear trend, even though some can and closure manufacturers are expecting prices for their upstream material to rise again.
