The German waste plastics market: higher prices and greater uncertainty in April

In April, the waste plastics market in Germany was once again characterised by uncertainty and price hikes.

The size of the mark-ups sought by sellers occasionally soared to absurd heights: An increase of several hundred euros per tonne for regrind was not uncommon. The current price quotes are often at record levels and the market is extremely volatile and difficult to assess. In most cases, converters and recyclers report massive supply problems. Recyclers often say: "We can only fulfil orders for our regular customers.” Availability is particularly tight for PP and HDPE.
