At the end of November, the annual talks between the tinplate industry and producers of packaging and closures were still in full swing.
The market participants surveyed by EUWID said they had not yet reached agreements on volumes and prices for the coming year. What was certain, however, was that tinplate prices would not fall. This was ruled out categorically by tinplate suppliers due to their own cost pressure.
But even if tinplate quotations remained unchanged next year, can and closure producers were planning to start 2023 with higher prices. "A price increase is a must," said one crown cork producer.
