Assocarta reports decline in production and sales

Preliminary statistics from the Italian association Assocarta indicate that 2019 was a rather difficult year for the country’s paper and board industry.

Italian industry saw total production fall by 2 per cent to 8.90 million t in the light of geopolitical uncertainties and structural problems in certain product areas.

Packaging paper and board manufacturers faced a downswing in production activity, although it was modest with a decrease of less than 1 per cent compared with 2018. Corrugated case material manufacturers were the only ones within the packaging sector to withstand this negative trend.
