Austrian corrugated board industry experiences slight downturn

09 Sep 2019 −

Austrian corrugated board companies reported a slight year-on-year decline in production volumes in the first half of 2019.

Their total output of 515 million m² was down by 1.2 per cent compared with the first six months of the previous year.

There were several reasons for this development, said Max Hölbl, spokesman for the industry organisation Forum Wellpappe Austria. The comparable period of 2018 was “exceptionally strong”, he said, noting there is still a very good rate of capacity utilisation in the industry.

Another reason was the current economic slowdown in Germany, which also impacts the very export-oriented industry in Austria.
