Corrugated board output in Spain crosses 5 billion m²

Spain last year produced a total of 5.2 billion m² of corrugated board to cross the 5 billion threshold for the first time in the last ten years.

Spanish industry association AFCO reports that output grew by 5% compared with 2016. Spain remains Europe’s fourth largest producer behind France, Italy and Germany.

AFCO adds that 3.08 million t (2016: 2.95 million t) of corrugated case material were used for production in the reporting year.

Sales of the industry, which include 71 companies operating 89 plants in the country, increased from €4.48bn to €4.87bn. The Spanish corrugated industry employed around 23,500 persons in 2017.
