The German aluminium packaging market:
Industry concerned about raw material costs

28 Oct 2021 −

With regard to the product ranges, the balance sheet of manufacturers of aluminium packaging looked rather positive in October: Beverage cans, for example, continued to enjoy high operating rates in the middle of the month.

Demand for aerosol cans for hair styling products and deodorants picked up again in recent months. Demand for food tubes was reportedly at a stable, in some cases "outstanding" level.

The main focus for producers of aluminium packaging was the increase in raw material and energy costs and the passing on of these costs to customers. Manufacturers of tubes, beverage cans and aerosol cans are particularly concerned about the development of aluminium. As reported by Commerzbank on October 12, the price of the metal rose to over US$3,070/t in mid-October, thus exceeding the US$3,000/t mark for the first time since July 2008.
