The German commodity plastics market:
Hoped-for surge in demand fails to materialise

01 Oct 2020 −

In contrast to general expectations, the market for standard commodity plastics became increasingly calm in September.

The increase in sales which typically follows the summer holidays largely fell short of expectations. Producers and distributors told EUWID that customers had accumulated inventory over the previous months during the low-price phase for granulate, and that these stocks were not exhausted yet. There was hardly any demand momentum in the area of polyololefins. There was an upward trend in the PVC segment, although demand could not be fully satisfied due to limited availability.
