Demand for standard commodity plastics suffered a minor setbacktypo3/ in August.
Compared with the "hectic" and "turbulent" preceding months, the majority of market respondents interviewed by EUWID said the waters were calmer now. The drop in demand was mainly attributed to the summer holiday season and seasonal production shutdowns. Some buyers – especially film manufacturers – had also pressed the pause button in anticipation of falling prices.
Nevertheless, demand was much stronger than it had been at this time in the last few years: "August is a bit more normal again, but the sales revenues are relatively high," said one distributor, referring to the persistently high plastic prices.
