The German commodity plastics market:
Polystyrene price plummets in June

05 Jul 2019 −

In June, demand was very soft for all commodities plastics with the exception of polystyrene.

The larger economic slowdown was fuelling uncertainty in the market, with participants only buying the essentials. In addition, June is a month with bank holidays and generally 2-3 fewer working days. Moreover, market experts say the bad press surrounding plastics and their environmental impact is beginning to take its toll.

The lack of demand is also blamed on the lower prices expected for July which are inducing buyers to hold back for now. All commodities were abundantly available. Prices rolled over going into June for all standard plastics except polystyrene.

This is an excerpt from EUWID's monthly report on the German commodity plastics market. The EUWID Price Watch for June together with the complete report will be published in EUWID Packaging Markets 14/2019.
