The German commodity plastics market:
Short respite in demand in December

13 Jan 2022 −

As the year 2021 drew to a close, the market for standard commodity plastics had only partially calmed down.

Demand in December was at a decent level, although the volumes ordered were noticeably lower than in the strong previous months. “Our customers haven’t ordered beyond the usual level,” a distributor told EUWID. Whereas at the end of 2020 supply was tight across all polymers, the situation had eased at the end of 2021.

According to reports, all requirements could be met. However, the reason for the somewhat weaker interest in primary commodity plastics was not only the typcial year end inventory draw-down or company holidays, but also an increasing unrest on the part of the converters.

⇒ This is an excerpt from EUWID's monthly report on the German commodity plastics market. The EUWID Price Watch for December together with the complete report were published in EUWID Packaging Markets 1/2022.
