The German commodity plastics market:
Demand from the packaging industry remains strong in May

08 Jun 2020 −

In May, the market for standard commodity plastics lost only a little momentum compared to the previous month, with minor supply bottlenecks registered in some areas.

Once again, it was the packaging industry that took the top position regarding consumption. Deliveries to other segments, e.g. the construction and consumer goods industry – especially the automotive sector – suppliers of standard plastics were still grappling with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, such as lockdown measures and short-time working. The falling upstream product prices triggered dips in granulate quotes – only polystyrene remained stable. The delivery period of European goods was within the usual range; imported goods could only be obtained with difficulty.
