The German pallet market:
Poorer forecasts for exports slowing demand in early 2019

14 Feb 2019 −

The somewhat poorer forecasts for general economic activity recently and an overall satisfactory supply of pallets to customers resulted in comparatively slack demand for standard pallets on the German market in the early weeks of January.

The mood amongst German exporters continued to deteriorate at the start of the year. The industry’s ifo expectations for exports fell to 5.9 points in January; the figure had still been 8.7 points in December.

The results of the surveys performed by the ifo institute show that the expectations of the chemical industry in particular, of key importance from the perspective of pallet suppliers, have fallen sharply whereas the foods sector and consumer-goods industry are still working from the assumption of further growth.

This is an excerpt from EUWID's report on the German pallet market, published every six weeks. The complete article together with the Price Watch for January will be published in EUWID Packaging Markets 4/2019.
