Companies active in the German cartonboard business are navigating extremely turbulent waters.
One recycled board manufacturer has entered administration at the very start of the new year, further compounding the shortage of cartonboard. Folding box manufacturers report having a tough time sourcing what they need and fear that they will not be able to run all shifts in 2022 owing to a lack of cartonboard. For their part, cartonboard manufacturers are urging their customers to make robust plans so that they can get supply chains back on track.
At the same time, cartonboard prices climbed to record highs at the start of 2022.
