The German PET market: July prices with slight upturn after hitting rock bottom
The months of April and May saw a sharp drop in demand for PET bottles in Germany. The order situation improved somewhat in June, and companies were reporting a normalisation of demand for July.
However, normal demand did not refer to the comparison with 2019 but to the developments of the previous months, said market respondents.
Shifts can be observed in the raw materials used for PET bottles. At the end of July, packaging manufacturers said products containing recycled materials were selling significantly less well and that projects planned before the coronavirus crisis which aimed to use recycled materials or to increase the existing recycled content had been postponed.
