The German PET market:
Weather, excess supply and yielding prices for upstream materials set the tone

06 Sep 2019 −

From May to July the market for PET virgin grades in Germany was adversely impacted by regional weather that was at times less favourable than last year.

This occasionally resulted in reduced demand for beverages sold in PET bottles. However, since in preparation for the summer converters’ PET inventories had been amply filled since May or the beginning of June, amid demand that was not constantly high, order levels for PET had dwindled, said EUWID respondents.

In addition, June and July were characterised by large supply of virgin PET grades from non-European suppliers.

This is an excerpt from EUWID's report on the German PET market. The EUWID Price Watch PET for August together with the complete report were published in EUWID Packaging Markets 18/2019.
