The German plastic packaging market:
Demand for films and pouches slackens

Suppliers in the market for plastic films and pouches can look back on a satisfactory second quarter of 2020.

Operating rates were mostly at 100% and some companies even ran extra shifts until mid-April to meet the increased demand in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Order volumes were even increased compared to the same period of the previous year, but the same did not necessarily apply to sales. Although these were largely higher than those of the second quarter of 2019, there was a significant fall in prices for both raw materials and packaging productsSince the end of May and the beginning of June, respectively, the downward trend had been stopped. Since the beginning of July, however, manufacturers of films and pouches had been registering yielding deliveries.
