The German polyamide market:
Prices for PA 6 for packaging applications go through the roof in April

17 May 2021 −

The market for PA 6 for packaging applications was characterised by extreme undersupply in April due to both planned and unplanned maintenance work among producers.

In addition to the force majeure declarations, European manufacturers continued to struggle with the worldwide shortage of plastic upstream products and were hardly able to deliver amid low stock levels, suppliers told EUWID. A very large supplier of caprolactam was reportedly also facing a maintenance shutdown in May, so that an easing of the situation was unlikely for the time being. Further force majeure declarations could not be ruled out either, according to insiders.
