The German steel sheet packaging market:
Sudden surge in demand leads to imbalance

23 Mar 2021 −

High raw material prices, rising demand and a short supply of drums characterised the German market for steel sheet packaging at the beginning of March.

As a result of the high demand for drums, individual manufacturers reported volume increases in the low two-digit range for the first four weeks of this year compared to January 2020. Plants were operating to capacity and requests for additional volumes could not be met. "Even customers we supplied many years ago are contacting us again," said a drum supplier.

According to EUWID respondents demand was particularly high from the chemicals industry, which fills its export products into steel drums.
