The German tinplate packaging market:
Industry faced with demand for higher prices

16 Nov 2020 −

The majority of packaging and closure manufacturers quizzed by EUWID were satisfied how volumes developed in the third quarter.

As in the second quarter, demand for cans for soups and convenience food, for example, or for DIY applications, was still booming. Losses in individual segments were often offset in the summer months thanks to diversified product ranges.

The tinplate industry's announcement that it intended to start the coming year with higher prices is however a cause for concern. Although the annual talks with tinplate suppliers had mostly not yet begun in early November, one thing seemed certain so far: Suppliers would like to see the price of the upstream material rise by up to 10% as of 1 January - in some cases even by 12%.

This is an excerpt from EUWID's quarterly report on the German tinplate packaging market. The full article will be published in EUWID Packaging Markets 24/2020.
