The German tinplate packaging market:
Producers are busy passing on higher costs

07 Mar 2019 −

Passing on the rising tinplate prices and price hikes beyond the upstream material have been at the top of the agenda of the packaging and cap industry in mid-February.

However, as this report was finalized there were only few completed deals with customers.

Individual market segments showed extreme developments for the past year. While crown caps partly enjoyed double-digit gains thanks to the long summer, crop failures occasionally led to double digit losses for deliveries of food cans.

As to how demand is expected to develop in 2019, most producers are unwilling to make any assessment at this early stage of the year.
