The German tinplate packaging market:
Producers see no easing of supply situation

"We would gladly produce more if we had the necessary raw materials," was a frequent comment in the tinplate packaging and closures market at the beginning of August.

The supply situation for the upstream material tinplate had become even more acute. There was "no easing whatsoever on the supply side," according to EUWID respondents. The situation was compounded by shortages and continued massive price hikes for other raw materials along the supply chain.

And there seems to be no end in sight to the rising costs spiral, because from today's perspective an "unprecedented price avalanche" is rolling towards manufacturers of packaging and closures, most of whom traditionally conclude annual contracts with the tinplate industry. Depending on the supplier, prices for the upstream material are  set to double....
