ECMA sees Europe’s folding carton makers faced with massive price increases

Carton makers across Europe are experiencing growing supply chain disruption associated with short supply, long delivery periods and high costs for cartonboard.

Demand for folding cartonboard has picked up significantly in 2021, driven by a sharp increase in demand from the food and beverage industry, the European folding carton industry association ECMA said in mid-October. At the same time, delivery periods for cartonboard increased from the usual 3 to 5 weeks to 20 weeks and more. According to ECMA, converters are experiencing disruptions in the supply chain as a result, especially in the supply of folding boxboard.
