German association IPV bemoans shortage of plastics

25 Mar 2021 −

The shortage of raw materials in the plastics industry is also being felt by members of IPV (Industrieverband Papier- und Folienverpackungen), the German association representing producers of packaging made from paper and plastic films.

A quick survey conducted by the association on 4 March 2021 found that member companies had not anticipated such supply challenges. More than 85 per cent of the firms described the current supply situation for plastics as „poor,“ with half of them describing it as „very poor.“ Material procurement costs have already risen enormously, according to IPV. Granulate and plastic film in particular have become much more expensive, it said.

Even the member companies who report fewer problems at the moment have admitted that they are currently taking measures to significantly build up their own inventory levels.
