IK: packaging suppliers running out of raw materials

15 Mar 2021 −

Manufacturers of plastic packaging in Germany continue to experience severe supply bottlenecks for various raw materials, according to a statement released by the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen in early March.

A survey among the association‘s members indicated a dramatic situation. According to the IK, three quarters of the companies surveyed reported a poor to very poor supply situation. Above all, there was a shortage of PP, HDPE, LDPE and PA.“Plastic packaging manufacturers are alarmed and very worried,” explained IK Managing Director Dr. Martin Engelmann.

According to the survey results, the supply of commodity plastics deteriorated significantly compared to the beginning of the year. In addition, dramatic price jumps were burdening the industry. An end to the supply bottlenecks was not in sight for the time being.
