Panic buying of food cans impacts on metal packaging industry

Panic buying left gaps in the shelves of numerous German supermarkets in mid-March.

Especially hygienic paper was in short supply, but pasta and canned food were also lacking.

Within the metal packaging industry, the effects of rushed hoarding of canned goods were already being felt. Cans and closure manufacturers told EUWID that their customers were asking for considerably greater volumes. So far there were no bottlenecks in production.
